A good programmer writes code at roughly the same speed as an average one, but they have much greater abilities in abstract design.

A good programmer creates more reliable software. Partly because they know how to design it correctly, and partly because they can write code with fewer errors.

One good programmer is more productive than two average programmers. In addition to design and reliability concerns, there's another factor: interpersonal communication. The smaller the team, the less time is spent on internal communication.

The quality of a programmer is directly proportional to their ability to work with any stakeholder above them who tells them what to program.

A good programmer can eliminate misunderstandings. They don't write what they or the client thinks, but they ensure that the client has a clear understanding of the expected outcome.
